The Demonologist (2018) - Movie Review

The Demons are coming! The Demons are coming! The Demons are coming!  This is the supernatural and haunted world of The Demonologist.  It is a place where the unexpected happens; where one detective, played by a very engaged Brian Klause, discovers that his own personal fate has so much more to do with a strange series of ritualistic killings than he could have ever imagined!

If you thought that images of demons and Satan and all sorts of the morbid and the grotesque might slow down for the New Year, well, think again.  The Demonologist, an origin movie that is neither dull nor routine, has arrived to kick all sorts of unholy ass.  But he’s going to need a little help along the way.  You see, the four horsemen of the apocalypse are about to be resurrected and only Klause, as Damien Seryph, can bring an end to it.   But, as the movie opens, he has no idea of his own fate as . . . The Demonologist.

"With scenes of bathing in blood to quite literally eating out a victim’s heart, The Demonologist doesn’t hold much back from the viewer, which is a good thing."

Co-starring Manon Pages as Meredith, our cult leader, Jared Bankens, and Lara Grice as Joan, The Demonologist does not take itself seriously.  Take a look at the names of its characters, man?  How can it!?  And, trust me, that makes all the difference in the world when it comes to enjoying this low budget thriller.  This is a tight adventure and it might just have you knocking a high five to your mates when it ends.

Clocking in with just the right amount of mysterious backstory to make this superhero-like tale of the unholy work in its modern day setting, I am already taking bets on the chances of us seeing another The Demonologist movie.  It is both cheesy and exciting and scores major points by maintaining a consistent tone throughout its mystery as two separate lines drawn from Lucifer’s loins battle for satanic supreme seating next to darling daddy.{googleads}

Writer/director J.M. Stelly (Within Madness) knows they type of audience this movie is reaching for and delivers both the blood and the boobs in what amounts to an over-the-top satanic dime store pulp magazine.  This is fun stuff, even if it gets twisted and takes leaps and bounds with its logic; nothing stops The Demonologist from winning over its audience.  The practical effects are good and, being strong, are only aided marginally by some CGI.

The Demonologist (2018) - Movie Review

With scenes of bathing in blood to quite literally eating out a victim’s heart, The Demonologist doesn’t hold much back from the viewer, which is a good thing if you ask me.  Even some of the “partiers” wardrobes – man, those masks are NICE – in the cult scenes are AWESOME.  The details!  The flesh!  The destiny on display!  When the battle between what’s good and what’s evil is this delicious, there are a few of us who’d care to never see it end.  So, on that note, I have to ask: can we have some more?

Uncork’d Entertainment will release The Demonologist on VOD January 1st.  Who you gonna call?!
