This is where Night of the Tommyknockers gets its mojo from. Gloriously filled with practical effects and cool humanoid creature designs, this horror film is all sorts of fun as one small town deep in the desert finds itself populated by ghosts in the wake of a violent surfacing by the Tommyknocker! No man, woman, child, or bank robber is safe from their attacks! Not even the horses!
Directed by Michael Su (Bridge of the Doomed) and written by Rolfe Kanefsky and Adrian Milnes (from a story idea by Michael and Sonny Mahal), this Western Creature Feature is a whole lot of violent fun as Nevada finds itself at the center of an ancient creature uprising. The Tommyknockers are here to stay!
Set knee deep in the Old West and starring Richard Grieco, Tom Sizemore, Robert LaSardo, Jessica Morris, and Michael Beran, Night of the Tommyknockers is hands down one of the best productions to come from Mahal Empire. It is full of surprises as the humor comes through and so too does the horror as one small mining town finds itself under siege from an uprising straight out of Hell itself.
With shootouts galore, the Wild West shines brightly as the crimson color of blood flows freely thanks to the arrival of Dirk (Grieco) and his gang. They rob the town’s bank and, while the town forms a reluctant posse (before hilariously talking themselves out of riding for their $5000), the gang sets up camp, going through their loot and divvying it up. They are happy but they could be happier with a larger score, so they go about planning their next job: a bank with gold in it.
Deadline: Deer Creek, Nevada. But what happens, upon their arrival, is not what they were expecting thanks to the Tommyknockers who take no prisoners in this desert town. They might be riding into the town high on horseback, but something is going to be carrying them out for good.
Armed to the teeth, the Dirk Gang feels every bit the conquering army, but protection is what they wind up becoming as the survivors of the town take up space at the local saloon, trying to shield themselves from what the dark night hides in the shadows. Random attacks on the townspeople have caused them all to flee to the watering hole and it is here where they will make their last stand against these demons.
And it is all because of the gold: their gold. Full of crazy kill sequences, solid effects, and a biting humor which doesn’t disappoint (stick around for the closing credits), Night of the Tommyknockers is a whole lot of fun. It must have been a blast to make because that joy shines through and rewards the audience with an effortless watch that is full of charismatic characters and cool creatures.
