Terrifier 3 (2024)

Art The Clown as Santa?  You had me at Ho Ho Holy shit that’s a great idea!

Grabbing the B-movie vibe by both cheeks and yanking his audience toward him, writer/director Damien Leone continues to put horror on the right track with Terrifier 3, featuring the fabulous David Howard Thornton as the cynical Harpo Marx-like clown killer who has a brand new bag of tricks and tools to kill with this holiday season.

Demented fun and full of a whole lot of grisly practical effects, Terrifier 3 expands on the mythology Leone has written in the past and picks up after the events of his last film in which Lauren LaVera as Sienna Shaw whacked off the head of that demonic clown and managed to walk away with her life.

"Demented fun and full of a whole lot of grisly practical effects"

But, as we all know, evil never dies . . . it just goes dormant until it gathers enough strength to retaliate . . .

. . . and take on a new form.

One that is certain to bring on all sorts of controversy among the kiddies out there.  Five years later, Sienna finds herself free of the mental hospital all the previous run-ins with Art The Clown put her in, but her bright future is still so far away.

And it seems like it is all going as Art The Clown has planned it to go.  Intense and truly demented, Terrifier 3 is an apologetic look at grindhouse horror and, as far as I’m concerned, the series (which only gets better as it continues) can continue forever . . . without any explanation for the supernatural forces which control Art The Clown.Terrifier 3 (2024)

Oh, this is a brutal story for sure.  Terrifier 3 is not for the faint of heart.  It’s for those who love black coffee and enjoy it when the rules of slasher films are broken.  This is Art The Clown’s specialty and it makes him all the more terrifying as he prolongedly kills his victims in the most interesting of ways.

Terrifier 3 opens with Art The Clown needing a new head and, as he and survivor Victoria Heyes, now possessed by the Little Pale Girl, stomp around an asylum before making a break for an abandoned home, they turn their own particular brand of humor into Christmas-themed carnage and set out to stuff the stockings right, complete with moments of impacted rat torture and chainsaws interrupting shower sex.

Fans know they are making their way toward Sienna and her brother, but their rampage toward the inevitable showdown is part of the fun as an entire Christmas season is turned into one big chopping mall.

Giving new meaning to Slay bells ringing, Terrifier 3 is absolutely killing it.

VIDEO

With a great scan - completely saturated in a throwback sense - Cineverse and Bloody Disgusting's slasher sequel gives fans of the slasher genre something to celebrate.  The images are crisp and detailed and retain their edges.  Framed in a tight 1:85:1 aspect ratio, this 1080p transfer is good, good stuff.  Colors are bold.  Shadows run deep and the crisp textures in the walls and in the backgrounds of this slasher are focused.

AUDIO

The DTS-HD stereo soundtrack is perfectly suited for the film.
