Color Out Of Space (2019)

Ladies and Gentlemen, Richard Stanley is back, baby!

Buckle up, because I’ve just stumbled on my new cinematic obsession. Color Out of Space doesn’t just sit next to Mandy in the hall of high-strangeness—it casually shoves it aside with a meteorite-powered uppercut. This film is a swirling, neon nightmare cocktail of sci-fi horror where CGI and practical effects collide in the most grotesque, mesmerizing ways.

Directed and adapted by the fearless Richard Stanley, Color Out of Space earns bonus points simply because Stanley GOES THERE. And when I say “goes there,” I mean cosmic-mind-melting, body-bending, what-is-even-happening levels of audacity.

"If your brain thrives on intelligent B-movie chaos, Color Out of Space is your jam"

The Gardner family’s idyllic life on their alpaca farm devolves into chaos when a meteorite crash-lands on their property, poisoning their water and turning their lives—and their livestock—into an escalating horror show. Yes, their alpacas. You will never look at a fuzzy animal the same way again. Stanley doesn’t just deliver terror; he throws it at you like a flaming purple baseball.

Nicolas Cage is, of course, the perfect conductor for this symphony of weird. As Nathan Gardner, he swings from tender family man to full-on unhinged survivalist with a gleeful abandon that’s simultaneously terrifying and glorious. Hydrologist Ward Phillips (Elliot Knight) shows up, eyebrows raised, as the town’s reluctant witness to the meteorite aftermath, but even he quickly learns that when Stanley calls “weird”, he means it.

Nathan and Theresa Gardner (Joely Richardson), their kids Lavinia (Madeleine Arthur), Benny (Brendan Meyer), and Jack (Julian Hilliard), have fled the city after Theresa’s mastectomy, seeking solace in the woods, alpaca milk, and—apparently—teenage Wiccan rituals. But Mother Nature (or the universe, or that giant purple meteorite) has other plans. Reality warps, personalities twist, fruit gets enormous then putrefies, animals mutate into nightmare hybrids, and neighbor Ezra (Tommy Chong) finds himself caught in the cosmic crossfire. Spoiler: nobody survives unscathed.

If your brain thrives on intelligent B-movie chaos, Color Out of Space is your jam. It blends Lovecraftian terror with gonzo spectacle, delivering moments that will make you scream, laugh, and maybe question your own existence. Stanley, fired from a previous directing job decades ago, finally gets his revenge on the cosmos, and it’s glorious.Color Out Of Space (2019)

The stars have aligned, the universe has gone mad, and Richard Stanley is here to prove that Lovecraft adaptations can be smart, terrifying, and absolutely bonkers. With Cage’s over-the-top, all-in performance, the film is part horror, part carnival ride, and part psychedelic fever dream.

The 4K steelbook release of Color Out of Space is a collector’s dream wrapped in cosmic chaos. The foil-stamped cover shimmers with purple-glow menace, instantly signaling the weirdness within, while the steelbook itself feels solid, tactile, and undeniably premium. Inside, the 4K transfer, immersive audio, and stacked special features turn your living room into a full-blown Lovecraftian nightmare, making this more than just a movie—it’s a shrine to Richard Stanley’s audacious vision. If you’re a fan of Cage, cosmic horror, or just owning something that looks as wild as it plays, this steelbook is mandatory.

Released by RLJE Films, Color Out of Space is a cosmic carnival of nightmares and oddball fun that belongs in your Blu-ray collection immediately. Alpacas mutate, fruit explodes, personalities unravel, and Cage loses his mind in the best way imaginable. Time to get weird—and I mean, full-on interstellar, body-morphing weird.
