If the bizarro opening of Sawed Off doesn’t grab your attention, you just might be dead already. In it, a very naked man cuts through the woods only to have sex with a woman and then find himself looking at the wrong end of a shotgun. Whoops.
And that’s only the beginning of this fright-filled flick!
Chock full of gonzo moments of terror and bloodlust, Sawed Off, a freewheeling horror film based on an equally bizarre comic anthology, takes the trapping and hunting metaphor to new heights as two friends, vying for the same woman, kill each other over and over again and it is all for her attention. Take that romance!
With a cursed land backstory (sometimes being animated with effective charcoal animations) at its heart, Sawed Off brings some PITCH BLACK HUMOR to its rivalry thanks to many unexpected resurrections as each man is left to die on their own, only to return time and time again, much to the other’s disbelief. Their wounds might be permanent, but their deaths are not. Whether the death is accidental or done in the spirit of revenge matters not, both are out for unlimited blood.
If it sounds strange enough to catch your attention, then you really shouldn’t hit the SNOOZE BUTTON on this low budget film. It’s being described as “Evil Dead meets Groundhog Day” but this film goes dark real quickly as cursed land gives way to a wood-chopping bonanza of murder most foul as two friends keep killing themselves AND COMING BACK TO LIFE!
Played straight and definitely not for laughs, Sawed Off decapitates the idea of romance real quick-like as one man is maimed (bloody stump in full view for the rest of the movie) and the other’s neck finds the sharp teeth of a chainsaw much to his own discomfort. But the real threat is the demon (performed by Split Lip’s Cristobal Hernandez and voiced by For Jennifer’s Charles Chudabala), who holds the key to why this keeps happening.
Based on Chuck Wagner's Eclipse Comics story "Bag Limit," published in TALES OF TERROR in 1986, Sawed Off and its BIG OL’ BUCKS is both demented and fun, proving that the competition for a woman’s attention is never over as friends continue to one-up each other in a courtship which even death can’t hault.
Starring Eva Hamilton (Death Kiss), Jody Barton (Ugly Sweater Party), and Trae Ireland (13/13/13). The movie will be released on digital platforms and DVD October 11. Hunter Johnson (Irrational Fear) produces and directs. The screenplay is written by Barton, Johnson, and Chuck Wagner. Other producers include Cris Hernandez and Richard Trejo (who also helms the film’s Cabin In The Woods-like cinematography), along with Barton and Ireland and Aquaman’s Oliver Poser provides the film’s special makeup effects.
Uncork'd Entertainment will release Sawed Off on Digital platforms as well as DVD on October 11th.
