Frost (2022)

Atmospheric and completely chilling, Frost is one WILD tale of wilderness survival you won’t soon forget thanks to some engaging performances, the extremes taken, and one rabid wolf, just waiting for his share of the fish bait. This is a movie about reconnecting. Frost is also a survival thriller in which two estranged people have to fight to keep what’s most important alive, even if it means going to some extreme lengths in order to remain among the breathing.

"Perilous and wrought with absolute agony, Frost works as well as it does thanks to unflinching narrative, a camera which keeps the audience engaged, and a script which - as weird as it sounds - keeps twisting its knife deeper into the audience’s flesh"

Directed by Battle of Saipan’s Brandon Slagle and based on a story from James Cullen Bressack, Frost is about one expectant mother, Abby (Devanny Pinn), and her father, Grant (Vernon Wells), attempt to reconcile the past after a 5-year absence. Driven apart by alcohol abuse and differing ideas on what a life can offer, Frost’s opening moments have us hoping for a better ending for the pair as they come to the conclusion that the past can be left behind and a better future snagged from the air.

But, first, they need to spend some quality time together. Fishing anyone?

Ignoring the gathering snowstorm outside, they decide - with Grant driving - to make the journey up the mountain on their fishing trip. Disaster awaits; however, when Grant loses control of the car, driving them off a cliff, down the slope, and straight into a tree. Ouch. This is where the haunting aspect comes in as the score - featuring contributions from Rick Wakeman (Yes), Geoff Downes (Asia) and Terry Reid comes into play. Mixed with the swirling snow, the music adds howls to the pain as Grant, knowing he has little time to save his daughter and her unborn rider, must brave the elements in order to bring her to safety.

Frost (2022)

They communicate by walkie-talkie, but when the contractions set in all bets are off when it comes to anyone getting out of here alive. Frost goes dark quickly as hallucinations take over and a bleak reality settles in, washing over the audience, too. Perilous and wrought with absolute agony, Frost works as well as it does thanks to unflinching narrative, a camera which keeps the audience engaged, and a script which - as weird as it sounds - keeps twisting its knife deeper into the audience’s flesh.

Frost is one THAW of a wild time in survival mode!
