After a June 28, 1967 evening engagement, actress Jayne Mansfield and the occupants of her car were traveling down a winding, narrow stretch of US Hwy 90 in rural Louisiana when the car would plow into the back of a stopped big rig.

As the car hit the rear of the truck, it underrode the trailer, shearing off the roof of the car. Mansfield and the teen-aged driver would later be found dead in the car as well her four chihuahuas. Mansfield's two children riding in the back of the car would survive the crash
