Psycho Goreman (2020)

Okay, let’s get this out of the way: Psycho Goreman is pure, unhinged joy.

Directed by Steven Kostanski, it stars Nita-Josee Hanna as the wickedly clever Mimi, Owen Myre as her mischievous little brother Luke, and Matt Kennedy as the growling, terrifying, but somehow adorably enslaved alien overlord PG. The movie kicks off with PG busting out of a glowing cosmic tomb in a blaze of rage and latex, only to immediately get bossed around by these two kids like he’s their personal minion. It’s loud, it’s messy, it’s ridiculous — and it grabs you by the eyeballs from frame one.

"gory, silly, over-the-top, and completely chaotic"

PG himself is a masterpiece of chaos. One minute he’s stomping across the backyard like he’s about to obliterate the planet, the next he’s reluctantly making snacks or doing a dance routine for Mimi’s amusement. Hanna and Myre lean fully into bratty, manipulative kid energy, and watching them manipulate a literal alien overlord is every bit as funny as it sounds. Kostanski clearly loves practical effects and messy B-movie absurdity; every gooey explosion, every rubbery tentacle, and every bit of blood-splattered chaos feels lovingly crafted — like the filmmakers dared themselves to go as over-the-top as humanly possible.

There’s a scene that perfectly sums up why this movie is so much fun: Mimi makes PG perform a full-on cheer routine for a kid across the street. PG in a tutu, bouncing and yelling cosmic fury, while the kids laugh like maniacs? Absolute cinematic gold. It’s absurd, it’s horrifying, and it’s exactly why you watch this movie. Every moment is like the filmmakers threw logic out the window and said, “Let’s just see what ridiculous thing we can make next,” and honestly, it works beautifully.Psycho Goreman (2020)

Now, let’s talk 4K Steelbook, because this is where the insanity truly shines. Every gooey explosion, every latex monster muscle, every cosmic glow is sharper and more vivid than ever. The DTS-HD MA 5.1 track slaps every scream, stomp, and squish straight into your living room, and the synth-heavy soundtrack gives the whole thing a gleeful, manic energy. The Steelbook extras — director commentary, behind-the-scenes tours of Kostanski’s creature shop, and art galleries — make you feel like part of the chaotic family that made this movie. It’s messy, it’s loud, and it’s gloriously, unapologetically fun.

Bottom line: Psycho Goreman in 4K Steelbook is exactly the movie you didn’t know you needed. It’s gory, silly, over-the-top, and completely chaotic, and the Steelbook presentation makes every squish, stomp, and scream look and sound better than ever. Watching PG get bossed around by bratty kids has never looked this good, or been this much fun. Pop it in, grab a snack, and let the chaos unfold — it’s a party, it’s a mess, it’s Psycho Goreman, and now it’s glorious in 4K.

Get ready to obey… or get squished.

VIDEO

The 4K Steelbook transfer of Psycho Goreman absolutely nails the film’s chaotic energy. Colors are vibrant without feeling oversaturated, and the glowing cosmic effects, gooey slime, and blood splatters really pop against the darker horror-comedy scenes. The rubber-suit textures and prosthetic details are sharper than ever, letting you appreciate the painstaking practical effects that give the movie its B-movie charm. Contrast and shadow are well-balanced, so you can see every monster stomp and every bratty smirk in crisp detail, while the HDR brings subtle depth to the cosmic glow sequences. Every frame feels alive, messy, and gloriously tactile — basically, it’s exactly the way PG wants you to see him.

AUDIO

The DTS-HD MA 5.1 track on the 4K Steelbook is pure chaos in surround-sound form, and it’s perfect for this manic little movie. Every stomp, squish, and PG scream hits with weight and clarity, while the synth-heavy, metal-tinged score rumbles through your speakers like a tiny intergalactic mosh pit. Dialogue is crisp, even when the kids are shouting over cosmic destruction, and the surround mix gives the practical effects — crashing, clanging, gooey explosions — a glorious sense of space and impact. Basically, the audio makes it feel like PG is bouncing off your walls while you watch, and every absurd little sound effect lands exactly as intended.
