There have been a lot of UFO documentaries over the years, and most of them fall into one of two camps: They promise answers they can't deliver, or they lean so heavily into skepticism that they lose the wonder that brought people to the subject in the first place. On the Trail of UFOs: The Disclosure Era steers clear of both pitfalls. Seth Breedlove and his team take a different approach, focusing on the people behind the stories and leaving the mystery just that—a mystery. That's a welcome approach, especially since the conversation about UAPs seems to be everywhere.
What I loved most about the series is its willingness to slow down and listen. Shannon LeGro, Micah Hanks, and Aaron Deese aren’t selling anything to anyone. Instead, they go to the places where these stories happened and spend time with the people who lived them. Some of the accounts are odd, some are frightening, and some are surprisingly moving. It doesn’t matter so much that you believe every story. But the series asks a far more interesting question: what happens to ordinary people when they encounter something they can't explain?
The cinematography is gorgeous, but not slick or overproduced. Empty roads, lonely landscapes, quiet conversations. It creates an atmosphere that pulls you in without the cheap thrills. Breedlove has always been good at finding the humanity inside stories of the unexplained, and it shows here. The show never feels like it’s chasing the headlines. Rather, it feels like a road trip through America's long and complicated relationship with the unknowable.
Whistleblowers and declassified documents, along with government hearings, have pushed UFOs back into the mainstream conversation. On the Trail of UFOs: The Disclosure Era reminds us that the witnesses have always been at the heart of the phenomenon. Their stories, no matter how strange, no matter how impossible they might seem, are what keep us looking up.
And you might find yourself doing the same after watching this series. The season premiere launches on digital platforms June 21st, with new episodes planned monthly with deep dives on each subject.
