After nearly getting knocked off its high perch last weekend by Pokemon Detective Pikachu, Marvel's latest entry, Avengers: Endgame finally succumbed and fell to newcomer John Wick: Chapter Three - Parabellum which took in $57 million in its opening weekend.
Despite a down box office over the weekend, The Keanu Reeves action flick had a strong debut by beating expectations which sat at $52 million last week. That total was big enough to handle all other newcomers as well as Endgame's nearly $30 million weekend.
Pokemon Detective Pikachu held strong in its second weekend with a $25 million third-place finish which puts its two-week total at a highly respectable $150 million. {googleads}
Newcomer A Dog's Journey finished in fourth place with an $8 million weekend beating out the Rebel Wilson-led comedy The Hustle which eked another $6 million while falling to the fifth slot.
In sixth place was Dennis Quaid's home invasion thriller The Intruder which made $4 million while the comedy Long Shot dropped two spots to finish in seventh place with just $3.4 million additional.
The teen drama film The Sun is Also a Star brought in $2.6 million on its opening weekend which was enough to best Poms and Uglydolls which brought in $2 million and $1.6 million respectively.
