Premarital (2026)

I went into Premarital expecting a light family comedy and was pleasantly surprised by how heartfelt it is. The setup is straightforward: Pastor Whitaker and his family are determined to convert their daughter's nonbelieving fiancé before the wedding. Naturally, nothing goes as planned.

"a fun, light-hearted comedy about family, faith, and the unintended consequences of meddling in other people's lives"

What makes the film work is that it never treats its characters as punchlines. Yes, they make some comically bad decisions, and there are plenty of times when you want to yell, "Just leave the poor guy alone!" But beneath the chaos lies a family that genuinely loves one another, even when they drive each other insane.

The actors are clearly having fun with the material. Jim O'Heir brings the same lovable everyman charm that made him a fan favorite on Parks and Recreation, and Mark Hapka delivers a grounded performance that helps anchor the increasingly ridiculous situations unfolding around him. Kelley Jakle and Meredith Thomas bring warmth and personality to the family dynamic, making the relationships feel genuine even when the comedy becomes hilariously out of control.

The supporting cast keeps the laughter going. Cameron Cowperthwaite, Cathy Shim, Igby Rigney, Abby Pierce, Steve Hanks, and Grover McCants all have opportunities to shine, adding to the film's quirky energy without diverting attention away from the central story. It's the type of ensemble where everyone appears to be in on the joke while still treating the characters as if they were real.Premarital (2026)

What I liked best is that the film isn't interested in taking cheap shots at faith or people who hold opposing beliefs. Instead, it finds humor in the awkward, clumsy ways people attempt to help one another. Sometimes these efforts are heartfelt. Sometimes they are a disaster. Usually, they are both.

For his first feature, Robert Ingraham demonstrates a confident voice as a filmmaker. The story feels personal, which could explain why even the most outrageous scenes feel grounded in something real. There is an honesty beneath the laughs that gives the film more enduring power than a typical comedy.

By the end, I was laughing, cringing, and rooting for everyone to get through the wedding with their relationships intact. It's a fun, light-hearted comedy about family, faith, and the unintended consequences of meddling in other people's lives. If you like character-driven comedies with heart, strong ensemble performances, and a lot of wedding-day chaos, this one is well worth watching.

This light-hearted comedy is now available on On-Demand platforms!
