The Devil's Disciples (2025)

Writer/Director Joe Hollow returns with a revisit to one of his original films (from a decade ago!) and comes out with a leaner and meaner flick on his hands.  The Devil’s Disciples is a reworking of an earlier film, Disciples, and - quite honestly - this NEW version is a much improved look at his original vision of what it would be like should Lucifer’s reign in Hell ever be threatened by a prophecy long in the making.

"makes for an entertaining supernatural fantasy thanks to its flexing of some great practical effects, a healthy dose of gore, nudity, and devilish dialogue"

You might be wondering if a decade-old independent movie can still hold its own in the new terrain of digital streaming and the answer is a renowned yes.  Hollow’s film is fun, frenetic when it needs to be, and filled with some great practical effects which makes it a film worth revisiting.  Clocking in at a quick 82-minutes, The Devil’s Disciples is a refreshing spin on some classic demonic lore which holds consequential endings for the residents of both above and below the soil.

Featuring a council of demons, a prophecy, a seraphin, and all sorts of quasi-political backstabbing as this council works doubletime figuring out the meaning of this troubling prophecy, The Devil’s Disciples makes for an entertaining supernatural fantasy thanks to its flexing of some great practical effects, a healthy dose of gore, nudity, and devilish dialogue. The Devil's Disciples (2025)

But things get a bit convoluted in the final stretch of the film.  One can imagine the amount of characters involved when it comes to a narrative like this and, while the characterization is appreciated, there remains quite a lot of plot threads for the audience to hang on tightly to and it gets a bit muddied in the final third of this flick - even the new cut doesn’t help clarify that but it is much smoother thanks to the efforts of Hollow and his collaborators.

From Angus Scrimm to Tony Todd, this cast is absolutely loaded with some great icons of horror which gives this indie flick the feel bad vibe it needs to be completely successful and, yes, this facelift of Disciples is exactly what the film needed to increase its audience.  The film also has horror icons like Linnea Quigley, Brinke Stevens and Bill Moseley!

Biblical lore gets its B-movie vibe on with The Devil’s Disciples!
