“You will never be a true clown!”
Make no mistake about it, Apocalypse Clown is going to be a cult classic. It’s deranged and barking mad, but the comedy is classic as a band of outcast clowns deliver laughs at the end of the world.
This Irish dark comedy is a genre-hopping beast of a movie. Whether it’s tackling its end of times themes, Coulrophobia-inspired horror, or finding humor in a meaningless existence, Apocalypse Clown is an absolute gem of a low budget movie. It’s witty, poignant, and full of some of the richest characters to ever grace the screen.
Opening with a couple of hysterical situations which leads to Bobo the Clown (David Earl) walking away from his job cheering up children at a hospital and emptying out his beat-up clown car of ribbons, balloons, and all sorts of other clown necessities, Apocalypse Clown quickly brings together a band of clown-and-out troopers, including the blue-haired Pepe (Fionn Foley), a desperate journalist named Jennifer (Amy De Bhrún), Natalie Palamides as a sweet but psycho clown named Funzee, and the evil Great Alphonso (Ivan Kaye), who might have killed a boy band member on a kid’s television show must confront the end of the world thanks to a gigantic solar flare.
Directed by George Kane and completely off its rocker, Apocalypse Clown is brilliant comedy, with well-timed gags and plenty of filthy humor to keep fans of What We Do In The Shadows very, very happy. It’s twisted and fun as this ragtag group of clown hooligans find strength and insanity in each other as their attendance at funeral for Jean DuCocque, a recently deceased clown legend, leads to an arrest thanks to an impromptu fight with a couple of very loud statue mimes, and then, thanks to a massive solar flare which knocks out everything electrical and collapses society itself into makeshift band of warriors, an unexpected road trip in a crowded clown car while they determine if the world needs them anymore.
With plenty of fun-framed shots while driving Bob’s clown car, Apocalypse Clown takes viewers on one hell of a wild road trip - loaded with plenty of hard cider - as they try to find a safe place to bury their idol and try to figure out just went sideways with the world as they knew it. This is a world suddenly thrust into survival mode as these painted fools rub elbows with Renaissance chieftains, who have banded together, out-of-their-mind survivalists, and run afoul of most everything that crosses their path . . . including those statues!!!
Complete with a psychotic big top showdown and conspiracy theories involving lizard people, Garth Brooks, and a teenage Hillary Clinton, Apocalypse Clown is a riot! It is now available OnDemand and Digital thanks to Red Hound Entertainment.
