Sometimes the perfect spot to call home completely turns against you. That’s what one couple discovers when they, wanting to get away from the big city, settle down in a remote location. It is an ideal spot, well, except for what awaits them in the forest . . .
. . . and all the members of the cult who bow down to it. You;ll be like new, they promise.
Summoning The Spirit might pride itself on its green thumb as this shoot appears to use natural light to its full effect, but this thriller also combines the love for the great outdoors with a sinister force which proves to be both exhilarating and horrific as it and its characters let the spirit guide them toward on unforeseen ending.
To put it bluntly, you won’t see this one coming.
With a disturbing opening in which two people attempt to set fire to the forest, Summoning The Spirit reveals itself fairly quickly. A sasquatch-type creature is in these woods and, as watched over by a sinister cult, things turn deadly rather quickly as they are always on the lookout for new recruits.
But Carla (Krystal Millie Valdes) and Dean (Ernesto Reyes) know nothing about this little episode. They only know they want the house which is nestled deep in the woods and, by stretching their budget, they can be ALL IN and never look back.
Or so they think.
When tragedy befalls the young couple, their new home is their only salvation. Things are not going to turn in their favor, though. There is something sinister awaiting them and, even though the neighbors are beyond friendly, they can’t shake the feeling that there’s something wrong with this place and the people living beside them.
Written and directed by Jon Garcia and co-written by Zach Carter, Summoning The Spirit revels in its atmosphere and it is thick with paranoia as the couple quickly realizes they are living on the land of a backwoods cult, which show no sign of slowing down their worship of a flesh-eating beast which calls these woods home. Now, thanks to the actions of the leader with telepathic abilities, both Carla and Dean are forced to uncover the terrifying truth of the cult’s prophecy.
And it is quite shocking indeed.
Co-starring Jesse Tayeh, Isabelle Muthiah, and Sean Sisson as Bigfoot, Summoning The Spirit is a walk on the wild side of Bigfoot lore. It is being released by Dark Star Pictures on Tuesday, March 7th.
