4 Minutes of Terror: Night Slasher

Written and directed by Nicholas Michael Jacobs (who previously brought audiences 2019’s Night and Urban Fears, and 2020’s Tales from Six Feet Under) 4 Minutes of Terror: Night Slasher wastes no second in its all too brief running time, igniting the passion of horror hounds and Jacobs own followers for more and more bloodlust.  For most of his filmmaking life, Jacobs has been pursuing do-it-yourself horror and his results have been solid stabs at carving out his own niche when it comes to low budget horror.

"offers a razor’s edge look at revenge gone wrong"

His latest, 4 Minutes of Terror: Night Slasher, is no different.  Operating as the opening short film in his new 4 Minutes of Terror banner, the film offers a razor’s edge look at revenge gone wrong when a young man vows to discover his mother’s killer . . .

. . . except the killer (played by Jacobs) has other plans.

Poor Reggie (Naceem Bright); he’s lost his mother and now his own life is threatened by this masked killer.  There’s not a lot of time to settle into this city-based thriller, but the moments you can dive deep into are thought-provoking, especially when you see the headstone noting the passing of Reggie’s mother.  4 Minutes of Terror: Night Slasher

Jacobs knows the genre well.  He’s a capable filmmaker who plays the tropes well.  But with this short film, his concentration on getting the right shots to propel the narrative forward is visible and not a distraction at all.  There’s no wasted moment here and, shooting once again in the late hours of Philadelphia - this time out in the streets - perfectly suits the pacing of the film.

There is an urgency here and it leaves you wanting for more.

And that’s exactly Jacobs' purpose with this short film.  Don’t worry, though.  There will be more offerings under the banner.  The Freak says so!  This film, as well as the other shorts in this collection, will be available on YouTube soon.
