The Haunting Lodge, directed by filmmakers Kendall and Vera Whelpton (The House In Between), is a fascinating investigation into the reported hauntings at a remote hunting lodge in Georgia. The land surrounding it is no stranger to stories of the weird and the bloody either. From unmarked, makeshift headstones to the theories about the War of 1812, their investigation into the reasons for the paranormal here come to light with intelligence and respect for the history surrounding the property.
But it is what their cameras catch in The Haunting Lodge which will blow your mind. Eerie and unscripted, this investigative documentary into the paranormal is riveting and full of tension, highlighted by an investigation into the crops surrounding the farm in which a light show is put on full display for the viewers. It is fascinating stuff.
But it’s what the Whelptons do best. Their other documentaries - The House In Between 1 & 2 and The Sleepless Unrest - verify the claims made at all the properties they are invited to study and work to build up possible answers for the homeowners. Complete with a history of the property and the surroundings in the investigative area, they are thorough and work well as a team.
But, with The Haunting Lodge, the evidence will scare the pants right off of you.
Dan, the desperate lodge owner, is searching for answers, as the hauntings are scaring hunters away and could ruin his business. The Whelptons move into the lodge to begin their investigation. Vera is the first to experience the hunter’s claims, but soon they both experience terrifying events, including being touched while they sleep. After having paranormal researcher John Doughertey assist them for one night and capturing the sounds of a whole lot of footsteps in and around the house, they are left with even more questions.
They soon call upon psychic medium Jill Morris to help them solve the case, and she reveals that the haunting is the work of an intelligent entity. The lodge's dark secrets are revealed as the paranormal activity escalates at the never-before-investigated location, and the couple find themselves in over their heads when they finally capture evidence of something otherworldly.
