Star Trek 2009

After much speculation, rumors, and hopeful optimism over the last few months, we have (almost) official word that J.J. Abrams is indeed boarding the Enterprise once again to bring us a sequel to his smash 2009 hit, Star Trek.

Vulture has reported that the Super 8 director is finally set to helm Star Trek 2, which will see a reprise of the original cast that included Chris Pine, Zoe Saldana, Zachary Quinto and others. Seems the delay was due to Alex Kurtzman's (who co-wrote the first script) involvement with his directorial debut which is now in the can. We'll cut him some slack as we're sure he was pretty busy with that. But now that the roadblocks have been removed, production is moving forward at light speed as it is said the script will be ready by the end of this month. How's that for beaming something up!

Vulture says that Abrams will begin filming Star Trek 2 this Winter, which likely projects to a Summer 2013 release, the same part of the year the first one found its audience.

This is certainly great news for all the Trekkies of the world.
