The Alamo DrafthouseWe were just turned on to this brilliant post over at Alamo Blog which is the official site for the Alamo Drafthouse, a small chain of cool retro theaters with screens in nine locations across Texas and one in Winchester, Virginia that offer cold beer and hot dinner fare to its film-going customers. Besides being just a cool place to watch movies, the chain is also known for its no texting and no talking policy in effect at its 4 locations.

Tim League, CEO and Founder of Alamo Drafthouse Cinema says he has nearly come to blows several times and has even been accosted in the parking lot by rude customers who were thrown out after violating the strictly enforced policy. League says when he adopted the policy, he realized it would alienate a certain portion of his customers. But that was his plan. League says, "If you can't change your behavior and be quiet (or unilluminated) during a movie, then we don't want you at our venue. Follow our rules, or get the hell out and don't come back until you can." Bravo Mr. League.

One recent customer apparently didn't take the policy seriously, nor did they take the two subsequent warnings to pocket the cell phone to heart… and they were thrown out with no refund. But rather than just simply sucking it up and licking her wounds, the expatriated patron decided a call to corporate was in order. Unfortunately her misguided, filth-laden rantings wound up leading off future trailer reels as a "Don't Talk or Text PSA."

You can check out the hilarious PSA, which is often greeted with cheers, in person at any of the Alamo Drafthouse locations, or just watch it below. Fun stuff.

OK, let's have a little fun dissecting her complaint. At first she says she didn't know about a no texting policy. HOW IN THE HELL DO YOU MISS THE NO TEXTING/NO TALKING PSAs THAT RUN IN EVERY THEATER? In addition, having a policy shouldn't even be necessary. It's just plain rude. One shouldn't have to be told to not be rude. Then later on in her rant, she changes her argument to "I was using my cell phone as a flashlight." Which is it, texter? We won't even bother getting into the various and sundry other grammatical errors, dangling participles, and noun verb disagreements in her drunken, hate-filled diatribe.

The lesson for theater-goers: don't talk or text during movies… any movie… anywhere in America. Secondly, if you do and you get thrown out, just walk away and take it like an adult lest you end up on YouTube. And the lesson for theater chains: If you have a no texting no talking policy, enforce it. Unfortunately, the big theater chains are somewhat culpable here having never backed up their policies with any authority.

Anyway, good job Tim League and The Alamo Drafthouse. Our country needs more like you.
