Jeff Bridges joins R.I.P.D.Fill your hands, you sons of bitches! Rooster Cogburn is joining the Rest in Peace Department!

Academy award winner and and go-to grizzled veteran actor Jeff Bridges has officially signed on to star alongside Ryan Reynolds in R.I.P.D. The Wrap is reporting that Bridges will play supernatural lawman Roy from Peter Lenkov's 2003 Graphic Novel R.I.P.D. which is getting the big screen adaptation by Dark Horse Entertainment and Universal Pictures. There's still a bit of uncertainly swirling about Ryan's availability for the project, but he's still officially attached.

Universal and Bridges were previously engaged by mutual interest for the movie since Zach Galifianakis dropped out of the production last month due to delays that threatened further casting and production of the film. Now it's official.

R.I.P.D. is a crime fantasy story that focuses on a recently deceased police officer (Ryan Reynolds) who is drafted into the ranks of God's police force (the Rest in Peace Department) who go up against supernatural enemies. Ryan Reynolds will depict newly recruited officer Nick Cruz who has traded 100 years of service to the department in exchange for the chance to find his killer. Bridges will portray his police officer partner who has been on the "ghost" force since the 1800's. He should be able to just use his Rooster Cogburn wardrobe, right?

R.I.P.D. is being helmed by The Time Traveler's Wife director Robert Schwentke who has described his vision of the film as a mix of genres such as action-comedy and a bit of romance.
