Screen Actors Guild Graphic

The King's Speech was bestowed with honor at last night's presentation of the 17th Annual Screen Actors Guild awards held at the Shrine Exposition Center in Los Angeles.

The British monarchy saga was knighted with two awards including Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Leading Role for Colin Firth and Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture.

While last night's honors, coupled with Tom Hooper's big win at last week's Director's Guild awards, don't necessarily put The King's Speech in the forefront of the Oscar race, it certainly sets up what is quickly becoming a juicy race at next month's Academy Awards celebration.

The Fighter also garnered some much-needed attention as both Christian Bale and Melissa Leo picked honors in the Supporting Actor categories, and Natalie Portman won for her brilliant performance in Black Swan. If it wasn't already settled, this should wrap up her race for Oscar in the Best Actress category.
