Snow White and the Huntsman - Movie TrailerThe first of the two under-development Snow White movies to get a trailer release is Rupert Sanders's dark and grisly take on the fairy-tale called Snow White and the Huntsman which stars Kristen Stewart as the titular princess and Charlize Theron as the Evil Queen.

The trailer, which was released today and can be viewed below (or over at Apple in hi-def) gives us a very good look at Rupert's vision of the fairy-tale which promises to be a much darker and grittier version than we've known in the past - although Disney's original is pretty damn scary in its own right. That Rupert comes from a video game commerrcial background goes a long way in explaining the epic look of the film which feels more LOTR or Pan's Labyrinth than fairy-tale. There's definitely a video game action-adventure aura about it with some pretty impressive special effects work - don't miss the "mirror, mirror, on the wall" part.

Also starring in the film is Chris Hemsworth (Thor) as the hunstman who is dispatched to by the Evil Queen to kill Snow White. The extended cast includes Lily Cole, Eddie Marsan, Ray Winstone, and Ian McShane. Following is the film's trailer:

In the epic action-adventure Snow White and the Huntsman, Kristen Stewart plays the only person in the land fairer than the evil queen (Charlize Theron) out to destroy her. But what the wicked ruler never imagined is that the young woman threatening her reign has been training in the art of war with a huntsman (Chris Hemsworth) dispatched to kill her.  Sam Claflin also joins the cast as the prince long enchanted by Snow White’s beauty and power.

There's another adaptation of the Snow White story in the works called Mirror, Mirror and is being helmed by Tarsem Singh.

Snow White and the Huntsman is being released by Universal Pictures and is scheduled for a wide theatrical release beginning on June 1st of next year
