Golden Globe Trophies

The Hollywood Foreign Press Association held its 68th Annual Golden Globe Awards ceremony last night. Besides the observation that it's beginning to more and more closely resemble the Academy Awards presentation in all aspects (including a red carpet and nearly identical video graphics), we noticed there were few surprise winners - save for Paul Giamatti's triumph for comedy/musical best actor. Or you may have been surprised by host Ricky Gervais who kept the audience (and censors) on edge with his awkward but biting commentary. Hope to see ya' next year, Ricky, but doesn't sound like we will. Come on, people. Lighten up!

Not surprisingly however, the big winners of the night were The Social Network, which hauled in 4 globes in all, and Colin Firth and Natalie Portman who won trophies for their performances in The King's Speech and Black Swan respectively. On the TV side, HBO's Boardwalk Empire won big with a Best Television Series - Drama victory and a trophy for Steve Buscemi for Actor in a Television Series - Drama, and Glee won for Best Television Series – Comedy or Musical and picked up a statue for Chris Colfer for Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role in a Series, Mini-Series or Motion Picture Made for Television.
